an aha moment in bookstore at Union Station in Washington DC

I took a photo of a page from a children’s book that I was perusing while waiting for the guys yesterday afternoon.  You might have to click on the photo to make it a bit larger: but notice the odd supply chain. Some cows on a field (is that really representative of a modern farm?)  Next the food magically appears in the grocery store. Note that the food is packaged. And is not the product of the dairy cows. In the final stage, french fries, salad, and meat appear on a plate.

Need I say more?

  1. I just stumbled upon this blog and post (I’m from DC) and I think this is really interesting. I’m currently serving as a youth development Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, and I’m looking into food studies programs for future studies. I find this picture really intriguing because I like the idea of using the food studies degree to influence education policy and the state of food in US schools. Anyway, thanks for sharing! You’ve given me food for thought.
